About Jose
Hi there!
Hi, I’m Jose.
I’m a coach who helps people loosen the grip of constant self-protection and learn how to respond to life with more choice.
I didn’t come to this work because I figured confidence out early. I came to it because I spent years learning how to stay alert, careful, and manageable in order to belong.
How my relationship with myself changed
For much of my life, I learned to read other people before I read myself.
I paid close attention to tone, mood, and expectations. I adjusted quickly. I stayed aware of how I landed.
That strategy made sense. It helped me survive environments where safety felt conditional.
Over time, though, it also narrowed my range. I knew how to endure discomfort. I didn’t always know how to choose from my own clarity.
What changed wasn’t confidence in the loud or performative sense. It was learning how to stay present when things felt uncomfortable, and discovering that I could trust myself to respond rather than brace or disappear.
how this informs my work
That experience is why my coaching focuses less on fixing behaviors and more on helping people recognize when they’re operating from old rules that no longer fit.
In our work together, we pay attention to what’s happening in real time, in your body, your thoughts, and your relationships. From there, we build your ability to pause, notice options, and choose responses that align with who you are now.
This isn’t about becoming fearless or endlessly self-improving. It’s about developing enough trust in yourself to meet life as it is.
Who I tend to work with
I work deeply with Queer, BIPOC, and first-generation people, because context matters.
Family roles, cultural expectations, racism, homophobia, immigration stress, and conditional belonging shape how we learn to stay safe.
At the same time, many people recognize themselves in this work regardless of identity. If you learned to stay safe by staying small, pleasing, rigid, or hyper-responsible, you may find this approach resonates.
What working together feels like
My coaching style is present-moment, relational, and grounded.
People often describe the work as steady rather than intense, honest without being harsh, and supportive
without taking over. We move at a pace that respects your nervous system while still inviting meaningful change.
The goal isn’t to eliminate discomfort. It’s to increase your capacity to stay with yourself when it shows up.
